Wedding Accordion Book Design Team Project for Maymay Made It
The wedding season is HERE! Today on the Maymay Made It blog, I am showcasing a wedding-themed accordion book using the "Walk In Love" stamp set by MMI.
Because the "Walk In Love" stamp set is so versatile, you can change up this project just by changing up the paper selection. Imagine the same stamp set used for a prom-themed accordion book, an anniversary accordion book, or a birthday accordion book. Imagine a Mother's Day, Father's Day or even Ministry Appreciation or Pastor's Anniversary accordion book. The same stamp set can do it all. PLUS, $5 of every purchase of the "Walk In Love" stamp set is donated to Samaritan's Feet, a non-profit organization that helps provide shoes to children.
Watch the video of my full process HERE (plus see the full accordion book open up!):
Making the actual accordion part was the trickiest part of this project. To save you all the trial and error I went through, here are the cutting and scoring dimensions for the project:
1. Start with AT LEAST 2 pieces of 12" x 12" white cardstock (or any color you would like as the outside border edge).
2. Cut each piece in half at 6".
3. Score one piece 5" from one end and then 6" from that score mark. Repeat on a second piece, so you have 2 pieces scored the same way. Set these aside. These will be the inside-accordion part.
4. Score a piece 4-1/2" from one edge and then again 1/2" from that score mark. Measure at least 6-5/8" in the middle, and add a second set of score marks 1/2" apart (as you did before). The inside-accordion part will adhere in the middle, and this scored piece will wrap around it like an outside cover. That's why we need at least a 1/2" allowance to fold around that whole accordion. But at this point, there's no way this outside piece is long enough to wrap around. So, we need to adhere an extender piece to the little short lip on the end. Simply trim one of the unused 6" x 12" pieces to about 4-1/2" and adhere outside the smallest score mark to complete your outside cover.
Adhere a piece of ribbon to the front and the back of the outside cover.
Then, I did some stamping. I used my stamping platform to make sure I got perfectly stamped, crisp images. For the sentiment stamps and verses, I used Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, and for the images, I used Distress Oxide Ink. Then, I lightly dragged a water pen over the Distress Oxide Ink to create a slightly "antiqued" look. Then, I used my paper trimmer to cut the sentiments and verses, and fussy-cut the shoes and footprints with scissors. While I was fussy-cutting, I also cut a few accents from the "Just Married" patterned paper pack from Echo Park.
After that, the accordion book is just a matter of decorating. If you plan to make a project like this, get in the mindset that you will just park yourself at your desk or table and just have fun decorating each little page of the accordion book. Try to make something "fun" on each page, like a frame with a pull-out tab for a photo or a pocket for photos, journaling or memorabilia. That's it! Use a Wink of Stella Shimmer Pen over the accents and some foam tape or foam dots for dimension. Have fun, and thanks for looking!
